Alice's Annex is a spacious garden-level apartment a few steps from street level and all on one floor. It's furnished with charming 19th century American antiques and reproductions. It offers a living room with small television, book-filled study, newly remodeled kitchenette, sitting area with second cable television and VCR, dining nook, bathroom with tub and shower, stereo with in-wall speakers and two phone extensions with answering machine. To sleep, there is a queen bed in the bedroom, a single bed in a nook off the living room, and the sofa opens to a queen bed. With its private entrance and complimentary washer and dryer on the premises, this apartment is an ideal home base for long-term visits.
The sitting room offers a cozy sitting area with a mix of antiques and reproductions. The comfortable sofa, which is actually a queen-sized sleeper, faces an Eastlake loveseat.
A large tiger-oak desk for working at one's PC is the highlight of the study, and there are dozens of books, including fiction in Spanish, French, German, Finnish and Portuguese, as well as children's books and games. The coat closet has plenty of shelves for extra storage.
The bedroom is decorated with whimsical hand-painted furnishings modeled after a Victorian "painted lady." Even the queen-sized bed, covered with an exquisite handmade quilt, is topped off by a large headboard reminiscent of a Victorian gabled roofline, down to its round vented attic window. And a delightfully carved armoire is available to house one's clothing, as are a large buffet and small dresser.
This charming sleeping nook is off the living room to accommodate a single guest.
Breakfast or other snacks may be prepared from the small kitchen, which includes a cooktop, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven and full-sized refrigerator.
The dining nook is on a raised platform facing a large sunny picture window that faces south, overlooking the garden.
The bathroom has generous shelves, and pampers with soft thick towels, complimentary toiletries and a hair dryer. Its ceiling fixture provides a soft glow, whereas the vanity light allows for well-lit grooming at the unusual mirror over its pedestal sink.
